When searching for the perfect family vehicle, many buyers turn to an online resource like Consumer Guide. They rate vehicles based on segment, and make it easier for buyers to pick the best options. For this year, Consumer Guide picked both the Chevy Tahoe and the Chevy Suburban to be on its 2021 Best Buys list for the large SUV segment. These full-size family models earned their place on the list thanks to their comfortable interiors, roomy designs, versatile capabilities, and high-end options — all things a family deserves to enjoy in their new vehicle.
Both the Tahoe and the Suburban enjoyed a redesign for the 2021 model year, which made both vehicles more spacious and better equipped. The 2021 Tahoe offers a maximum of 122.9 cubic feet of cargo space, the best in its class. The Suburban is also best in its class for cargo space, with 144.7 cubic feet. Consumer Guide appreciated that both of these Chevy models can fit up to nine passengers, while most full-size SUVs can only seat eight.
Also noteworthy are the three powerful engine options available in both of these models. There’s an impressive 6.2-liter V8 engine option with 420 horsepower, and a somewhat unique 3.0-liter Duramax® Turbo-Diesel option, with 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
Transwest Chevy is very excited to reveal that General Motors’ most beloved duo – the Suburban and Tahoe – are being refreshed for the 2021 model year. Interested in learning more about the updates for 2021? Here’s what we know.
Though the Suburban and Tahoe were always among the most spacious Chevrolet vehicles, the 2021 updates to the SUVs bring their interior comfort and cargo capacity to the next level. The Tahoe has been upgraded to offer 10 more inches of legroom for third row passengers than the previous generation, and also has 66 percent more rear cargo space. Maintaining its best-in-class cargo volume designation, the 2021 Suburban has 19 percent more cargo volume than the 2020 edition did.
The 2021 Tahoe and Suburban offer a game-changing Duramax® 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine, making the twin Chevrolet SUVs the only full-size SUVs on the market to offer a diesel powertrain option. The most powerful option is a V8 6.2L engine with Dynamic Fuel Management that delivers 420 horsepower and up to 460 lb-ft of torque.
The 2021 Tahoe and Suburban also includes new technologies like a 10-inch touchscreen in the center console (largest in their segments), Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, a 15-inch heads-up display, Rear Pedestrian Alert, and nine camera views to help with trailering visibility.

Chevy recently announced the all-new 2021 Tahoe and Suburban. Both models will elaborate on the previous model year’s reputation for accommodating passengers and hauling cargo. The 2021 Tahoe and Suburban will come with new tech and features, and it will provide more cabin space and better driving dynamics than previous versions.
“We’ve taken what people love about these pioneering SUVs and made them even better – adding more room for people and cargo, more advanced technology and an unrivaled driving experience,” said Barry Engle, executive vice president and president of General Motors North America.
According to the announcement, the upcoming Tahoe has 66 percent more cargo room behind the third-row seats, while the Suburban has 19 percent more maximum cargo space behind the first-row seats. Third-row passengers will also get 10 more inches of legroom in the new Tahoe.
Both models will also deliver a smoother, more cushioned ride thanks to available Magnetic Ride Control technology paired with a first-in-class Air Ride Adaptive Suspension. The latter system yields up to 4 inches of ride-height adjustment and load-leveling at each corner of the vehicle to better absorb the bumps you encounter on rough roads.
Other updates include five available display screens for enhanced infotainment options, 30 advanced safety and driver-assist tools, and a best-in-class amount of nine camera views system for safer and simpler towing. Chevy has also extended these models’ powertrain options to better suit demands. You can choose an all-new efficient 3.0-liter Duramax® turbo-diesel engine or the more potent 6.2-liter V8 with Dynamic Fuel Management that churns out 420 horsepower.
