Diesel lovers can rejoice: There’s a new turbo-diesel engine in town. The all-new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado has added a new available 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six engine to provide its customers with more choice and versatility.

The 2020 Silverado turbo-diesel engine will have class-leading torque and horsepower, while still providing consumers with the fuel economy and capabilities they want. It the first-ever inline-six turbo-diesel to be offered in Chevrolet’s light-duty truck lineup.

“From the moment the engine is started, to its idle, acceleration, and highway cruising, the 3.0L Duramax performance will change perceptions of what a diesel engine can offer in refinement,” said Nicola Menarini, director for Diesel Truck Engine Program Execution. “With advanced technologies that draw on global diesel expertise, it’s a no-compromise choice for those who want the capability and driving range of a diesel in a light-duty truck.”

The 2020 Silverado turbo-diesel engine is one of six powertrain options available on the Silverado. It will be an available option on the LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country trim levels and will come paired to a ten-speed automatic transmission. The turbo-diesel provides 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, reaching 95 percent of peak torque at just 1,250 rpm – giving you plenty of towing power.

We at Transwest Chevrolet Buick are huge fans of the current Silverado, so we’re thrilled that it will be adding yet another engine option to its already exhaustive lineup of powertrain possibilities.

Driving Your 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in the Snow

You’re probably no stranger to the harsh Colorado winters. Luckily many Chevrolet vehicles are well-suited to winter driving, especially the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

  • Use your Drive Mode Selector: If you opted for the available Drive Mode Selector, you’ll notice a mode called Snow/Ice. It’s engineered to reduce slipping and boost traction during harsh weather.
  • Consider winter tires: Purchase winter tires: They are the number one safety precaution you can take for slick roads, and the Silverado’s Snow/Ice drive mode works best when paired with these tires.
  • Turn on your lights: Improve your visibility by turning on your Silverado 1500’s available high-intensity LED headlamps so other cars can see you on the road too.
  • Make use of your Durabed: The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s pickup bed has more cargo volume than any competing truck. Pack it with essentials like warm clothes, food, and water in case you get stranded. Stow away tools that could help like shovels, chains, flashlights, flares, and sand.
  • Pay attention: Your Silverado is available with a wide range of active safety features like the StabiliTrak stability control system and Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert. Remember that they are no substitute for your full attention during driving, but they certainly help.
